Profile :
Sweden’s Niclas Fasth’s
2006 season places
him as one of the
world’s elite golfers.
Winning twice in Spain,
including a birthday
victory at the Andalucia
Open de Espana Valle
Romano, catapulted
the fan-favorite up
the world rankings.
Fasth also enjoyed
a tremendous season
in 2005 when he won
one of Europe’s most
prestigious tournaments,
the Deutsche Bank
Players Championship
of Europe and secured
an international title
at the Holden New
Zealand Open – both
victories in play-offs.
But his greatest
moment in stroke-play
golf came in 2001
when he finished second
to David Duval in
The Open Championship
at Royal Lytham &
St. Annes.
Fasth is a very experienced
team golfer and has
represented Sweden
in the World Cup four
times (’05, ’03, ’02
and ’01). In Fasth’s
2002 Ryder Cup debut
at The De Vere Belfry
he was denied the
chance of holing the
winning putt by Paul
Azinger’s audacious
chip in from the bunker
at the 18th in their
singles tie.
The Swede, also a
winner three-times
on the Challenge Tour,
is known to truly
enjoy taking in the
sites where he plays
and relishes the opportunities
to visit the great
places golf has taken
him.
