Profile :
Henrik Stenson had
a remarkable 2006
on the Tour. He started
the year strong winning
the Qatar Masters
and finishing second
at the Abu Dhabi Golf
Championship, throughout
the season stayed
around the top ten
in the world rankings
and beat world-class
opponents including
Retief Goosen with
an eagle at the first
play-off hole in Munich
to win the BMW International
Open.
Stenson’s victories
have not only been
individual successes.
Golf glory was Stenson’s
at this year’s Ryder
Cup. The Swede holed
the winning putt as
Europe overwhelmed
the USA 18 1/2 points
to 9 1/2, and completed
an extraordinary hat
trick. Stenson was
one of the great stories
of this remarkable
Ryder Cup.
As a European Team
member for the inaugural
Royal Trophy, Stenson
beat local hero Thongchai
Jaidee to secure the
winning point, and
cut short a thrilling
final day comeback
in the singles by
the Asian Team. Captain
Seve Ballesteros believes
Stenson will play
a pivotal role in
the Royal Trophy,
as does the Swede
himself.
