The son of a former
Olympic sprinter,
India’s Jeev Milkha
Singh made golf history
in 1997 when he became
the first Indian golfer
to qualify for the
European Tour by securing
a Tour card. Singh
has since learned
from his father’s
wisdom, “to stay in
the present and to
breathe well, to stay
calm when the pressure
is on,” and amassed
victories throughout
the globe.
The 2006 season proved
a pivotal year for
the Chandigarh native
as he showcased his
confidence and talent
in claiming the Volvo
China Open and then
the European Tour’s
season-ending event,
the Volvo Masters
at Valderrama. This
win at one of the
most important events
in the European Tour
was Singh’s clear
notice that he could
prevail even when
surrounded by the
great majority of
Europe’s very best
golfers.
Not satisfied with
what was already an
amazing 2006 for him,
Singh followed through
with a fantastic win
at the Casio World
Open, one of the biggest
tournaments in Japan.
Singh, the first
Indian golfer to play
at the US Open (2002),
closed 2006 with an
exclamation mark securing
the title of Asian
No. 1 player of the
year.
Singh is experienced
in team golf competition
through his representation
of India at various
tournaments, including
the Alfred Dunhill
Cup. He is making
his first appearance
at the Royal Trophy.
