Profile :
At the age
of 22, Prom
Meesawat is
a rising star
in the game
of golf. Nicknamed
the “Big Dolphin”
due to his strong
build and his
residence in
the coastal
town of Hua
Hin, Meesawat
surged to his
first professional
title at the
SK Telecom Open
in 2006. He
went on to dedicate
his first-ever
Tour victory
to his late
mother who passed
away three years
ago.
As a result
of the stunning
win, Meesawat
climbed to the
No.2 ranking
in Asia, chasing
the red-hot
Indian Jeev
Milkha Singh
for the No.1
spot throughout
the latter half
of the season.
In consolidating
a tremendous
2006, he finished
second at the
Crowne Plaza
Open and then
finished in
the top ten
at the highly
competitive
Barclays Singapore
Open.
Meesawat’s
great success
on the golf
course is no
surprise as
his father,
Suthep Meesawat,
holds the honor
of being the
first Thai to
win the Thailand
Open. Undoudtly
it was his father
who fostered
the young prodigy’s
game, but it
was Fiji’s Vijay
Singh who urged
the youngster
to compete professionally
on the Tour
and helped guide
the youngster’s
professional
career.
Not only one
of the top juniors
in Asia, where
he won the Asia
Pacific Junior
Championship
(1996 – 2002),
Meesawat was
also one of
the world’s
elite amateurs;
he won the Junior
World Championship
twice (2002
and 1997). Much
is made of the
immense potential
of the young
and talented
Meesawat.
He is the youngest
player competing
in the Royal
Trophy. |
