Profile |
Highlight
of an excellent 2005
season was his eighth
European Tour victory
in The Daily Telegraph
Dunlop Masters in
May where he emerged
victorious from a
sudden-death play-off
featuring Brian Davis
and David Howell.
Almost added to that
in August when he
came agonizingly close
to capturing his first
Major Championship,
finishing tied second
behind Phil Mickelson
in the US PGA Championship.
It was the Dane’s
third runners-up slot
in a Major Championship,
following his second
places in the 2000
Open Championship
at St Andrews and
the 2003 Open Championship
at Royal St George’s.
Early in his career,
he used the Challenge
Tour as a platform
to showcase his talents.
Won four titles on
his way to topping
the Rankings in 1995
with what was then
a record total of
€65,059 before emerging
as a genuine top class
player by capturing
the Loch Lomond World
Invitational in 1996.
The victory proved
to be the springboard
for Bjorn to become
the first Danish golfer
to play in The Ryder
Cup, a feat achieved
the following year
at Valderrama. Qualified
automatically again
for his second Ryder
Cup appearance in
2002 and played a
significant part in
Europe’s win at The
De Vere Belfry. |
