Masahiro
was born in the city
of Hiroshima on September
9, 1955. He is known
among his foreign
friends as Massy.
His father was a
golfer and he took
Massy to a driving
range when he was
10 years old. At 14
he became the youngest
Club Champion at his
home course. Played
in Club Championship
next 3 years and won
at ages 16 and 17.
Kuramoto proceeded
to win three times
the Japan Amateur
Golf Championship
(1975, 77, 80) and
the Japan Collegiate
Golf Championship
during all four years
of college (1974-77).?He
won his first professional
event, Chushikoku
Open, as an amateur
in 1980 and then turned
professional in 1981.
In 1982 Kuramoto was
to live one of the
highlights of his
golf career when he
finished tied 4th
place at the British
Open at Royal Troon,
only two strokes behind
the winner Tom Watson.
He traveled the world
in the 1980’s and
1990’s playing against
the best players of
the time including
playing full-time
in the US PGA Tour.
In 2003, at 48 years
of age he returns
to his winning ways
shooting an opening
round of 59 at the
Acom International
and went on to win
the tournament.
Kuramoto has won
30 Japan Tour titles
during his outstanding
career, is one of
only six Life Time
Japan Tour Exempt
Players, has earned
close to USD 10 million
in Japan Tour career
prize money and plans
to play fulltime in
the US Seniors Tour
in 2006.
